How to compress a PDF to 50 KB

    1. Add your PDF. Drop it into the box above or browse to it. It is opened in your browser, not uploaded.
    2. Keep 50 KB selected — or pick a nearby size, or type the exact limit your portal states.
    3. Compress and download. Images in the PDF are downsampled step by step until the file is under 50 KB, then you download the result.
Check the portal's minimum too. Some portals set a floor as well as a ceiling. UPSC, NEET UG and JEE Main document uploads, for example, must be between 50 KB and 300 KB, so a certificate compressed below 50 KB is rejected there for being too small. Use 50 KB only where the portal's limit is 50 KB; for those exams, aim for about 250 KB with the 250 KB tool.

What fits in 50 KB: measured

50 KB holds 1 text page at readable quality, but not at full sharpness. A single text-heavy page keeps about 68 DPI; fine print softens. A certificate with more white space does better: 0 pages stays sharp.

DocumentPages kept sharp (about 100 DPI)Pages kept readable (about 70 DPI)One page reaches
    Text-heavy scan (A4, greyscale, 150 DPI)01about 68 DPI
    Certificate scan (A4, colour, 200 DPI)01about 86 DPI
    Phone photo of a page (12 MP)01about 68 DPI

Moving up to 80 KB adds room for no extra readable text page, only a little more detail. Dropping to 20 KB costs about 1 readable text page.

How we measured: this page's own compressor was run on three test documents of 1 to 30 pages, and the largest page count that stays under 50,000 bytes was recorded at each quality level. Your scans will differ with paper, ink and scanner, so treat these as a guide.

    Frequently asked questions

How many pages fit in a 50 KB PDF?

In our measurements, about 1 text-heavy scanned page at readable quality (0 kept sharp), or 1 certificate pages. A single page reaches about 68 DPI.

Can every PDF be compressed to 50 KB?

Most scanned PDFs can. The tool shrinks the images inside the PDF, so it works best on scans and photos; a PDF that is mostly text or vector drawings has little to remove, and the tool tells you the smallest size it could reach.

Will a scanned page still be readable at 50 KB?

A single text-heavy A4 page keeps about 68 DPI at 50 KB in our measurements: readable, though fine print softens. Real text in a PDF (not a scan) is left untouched and stays sharp and selectable at any size.

Is the result exactly the target size?

It is the largest file the tool can produce that is still under the target, so you keep as much quality as the limit allows. It aims below 50,000 bytes, so it passes whether a portal counts a kilobyte as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes.

    Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression runs in your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, which matters for ID cards, certificates and mark sheets.

What size do UPSC, NEET and JEE Main documents need?

Their document PDFs must be between 50 KB and 300 KB. A file below 50 KB is rejected as well as one above 300 KB, so do not compress further than you need to.
