This is the part almost nobody tells you. HPSC does not run one application system, it runs two, and they ask for different things. The specification you need depends on which one the advertisement sends you to.

A file built for one is not necessarily valid on the other. A 500 KB signature is fine on the registration portal and ten times over the limit on the other; a 160 px-wide photograph is required to be at least 132 on one and may be as small as 100 on the other. Check the link the advertisement actually gave you before you prepare anything — the switch above sets this tool to match.
The registration portal is the one used for Haryana Civil Services (Executive Branch), HCS (Judicial Branch) and the Lecturer advertisements we checked. Profile registration there is mandatory before you can apply, and it is done with a PPP ID, an Aadhaar number or a mobile number — with the caution that a name or date of birth arriving from the PPP database is not editable afterwards.
Most commissions give one number. Kerala wants exactly 150 × 200. Odisha wants exactly 150 × 200. Karnataka publishes no dimensions at all. HPSC does something different again: it gives a band, and anything inside it is acceptable.
That is more forgiving than it looks, and it is why you may have seen several different “HPSC sizes” quoted that were all technically fine. One widely published page gives 138 × 177 for the photograph and 138 × 59 for the signature. Both of those sit inside the registration portal's ranges, so the dimensions are legal — they are simply presented as the required size when the portal accepts a whole band, and the file-size limits published alongside them match neither system.
This tool targets the largest dimensions the band allows, because within a permitted range more pixels means more detail and there is no cost to it. The exact output size is shown with the result so you can check it against the band yourself.
Neither HPSC portal names one. Their upload instructions give formats, a file size ceiling and a dimension band, and stop. Dark ink on white paper scans well and survives compression, but HPSC has not made it a rule and we do not invent one.
It is worth being careful here, because the neighbouring commission does specify it. Himachal Pradesh's FAQ asks for a signature put on white paper with a black ink pen. That is HPPSC's rule, not Haryana's, and this is exactly the kind of instruction that gets carried across between two commissions whose abbreviations differ by one letter.
HPSC is the Haryana Public Service Commission, at hpsc.gov.in. HPPSC, one letter longer, is the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission at hppsc.hp.gov.in. They are different commissions in different states and nothing on this page applies to Himachal.
Himachal's own published FAQ asks for a photograph of 110 pixels wide by 140 high and a signature of 140 wide by 110 high, neither exceeding 40 KB, in .jpg, with the signature in black ink pen on white paper, and accepts black-and-white or colour photographs. Haryana states none of that and gives entirely different dimensions. If you have been handed a 40 KB figure for “HPSC”, you have Himachal's rule.
Within Haryana, HPSC is also not HSSC, the Haryana Staff Selection Commission, which recruits separately through its own portal.
Same application, different file. Each has its own limits — they are not interchangeable.
It depends which of HPSC's two application systems your advertisement uses. On regn.hpsc.gov.in the signature must be under 500 KB with dimensions from 132 x 57 to 160 x 68 pixels. On apply.registernow.in/HPSC it must be under 50 KB with dimensions from 50 x 50 to 150 x 150 pixels. Both accept JPG, JPEG and PNG.
Whichever portal the advertisement sends you to. The registration portal covers Haryana Civil Services (Executive Branch), HCS (Judicial Branch) and the Lecturer advertisements we checked; other advertisements use the second system. The difference matters: a 400 KB signature is perfectly acceptable on the first and eight times over the limit on the second.
Its stated range is 50 x 50 to 150 x 150 pixels, which is a box rather than a shape - any width and height inside it is accepted. A normal landscape signature fits comfortably; this tool picks the largest legal frame that matches your signature's own proportions rather than squashing it into a square.
Neither system states one. Both give ceilings only, so nothing here is padded. On the registration portal the 500 KB ceiling is very generous for an image of at most 160 x 68 pixels, so in practice the dimensions are the only real constraint.
Neither HPSC portal says. Their upload instructions cover formats, file size and dimensions and nothing else. Himachal Pradesh's commission does specify black ink pen on white paper - but that is HPPSC, a different commission, and we do not import one body's rule into another's page.
It is legal on the registration portal, which accepts anything from 132 x 57 to 160 x 68. It is not the only correct answer, and pages presenting it as the exact required size are describing one point inside a range.
