BPSC states the signature spec twice, and the two do not agree
Both of these are in the same document — the advertisement for the Integrated 72nd Combined (Preliminary) Competitive Examination, dated 5 May 2026 — one page apart.

These are not two ways of saying the same thing. The first fixes the height at 100 pixels. The second requires a height between 250 and 320. There is no overlap, so no single image can satisfy both. One is landscape, the other is portrait — and a portrait signature box is itself unusual enough to raise an eyebrow.
What we do about it: we produce both files from one scan, label each with the clause it came from, and let you choose. We will not guess on your behalf, because guessing wrong costs you the application. If you have to pick blind, the Step 6 figures are the ones BPSC also repeats word for word in its User Manual, and Step 6 is the screen where the upload happens.
BPSC does not take a photograph upload at all
This is the part almost every other page gets wrong. BPSC captures your photograph live, through your webcam, while you are filling the form — and again at the document stage. There is no photograph file to prepare, resize or compress.
The advertisement is unambiguous: your machine must have a good quality webcam, the background at capture must be white or light coloured, and there must be sufficient light. The User Manual adds the rest: face straight and in front of the webcam, eyes open, looking into the camera, no cap, power glasses, sunglasses, mask, muffler or helmet, and nobody else in the frame.
Meanwhile the resizer sites sell a “BPSC photo” at 250 × 250 pixels and 20–50 KB, or at 200 × 230 — the latter being the IBPS and SBI banking template, which has now turned up on state-commission pages for three different commissions. They are all sizing a file for a step BPSC removed.
Two signatures, not one
BPSC requires one signature in Hindi and one in English, uploaded separately, and tells applicants to satisfy themselves that both uploaded images are clear. Scan them separately and run each through this tool once. It is the single most commonly missed BPSC requirement, and none of the resizer tools mention it.
No ink colour is specified — but legibility is
BPSC states no ink colour for the signature. MPSC requires black; GATE permits black or dark blue; BPSC simply asks that the scanned image be clear and legible. We do not invent a rule it did not write.
What we do check is whether the image will still be legible after compression. At 15 KB and 220 × 100 the budget is genuinely tight, and a thin or faint pen can survive the resize only to disappear into the JPEG. The tool reports the contrast it measured between your strokes and the paper before you download.

Frequently asked questions
What size should a BPSC signature be?
BPSC's own advertisement answers this twice, and the two answers contradict each other. Its detailed instructions say .jpg or .jpeg, maximum 15 KB, dimension 220 x 100 pixel. Its Step 6 profile-creation instructions, on the very next page, say not more than 20 kb with width between 150 and 220 pixel and height between 250 and 320 pixel. A 220 x 100 image has a height of 100, which is nowhere near the 250 to 320 the other clause demands. No single file satisfies both, so this tool makes both.
Which of the two should I upload?
We cannot tell you with certainty, and we will not guess on your behalf. The Step 6 figures are the ones repeated word for word in BPSC's User Manual, and Step 6 is the screen where the upload actually happens, which is weak evidence that those are the figures the portal validates. Prepare both, try the Step 6 file first, and if the portal rejects it try the other. Both are produced here from the same scan in one go.
Does BPSC need two signatures?
Yes. One in Hindi and one in English, uploaded separately. The advertisement is explicit: the applicant must upload one English and one Hindi signature, and must satisfy themselves that both uploaded images are clear. Run this tool twice, once per scan. Almost no other guide mentions this, and it is the requirement most likely to catch you out.
What size photo does BPSC need?
None. BPSC does not accept a photograph upload at all. The photograph is captured live through your webcam while you fill the form, and captured again at the document stage. You need a working webcam, a white or light coloured background and sufficient light. Any site selling you a BPSC photo resizer at 250 x 250 or 200 x 230 pixels is sizing a file for a step that does not exist.
What ink should I sign with?
The advertisement does not say. It requires only that the scanned image be clear and legible. Unlike MPSC, which requires black, and GATE, which permits black or dark blue, BPSC states no ink colour for the signature, so we do not invent one. This tool measures how legible your strokes are against the paper and tells you if compression is likely to lose them.
Why does the file get so small?
Because the ceilings are unusually tight. 15 KB at 220 x 100 pixels, or 20 KB at up to 220 x 320, leaves little room. A faint or thin-penned signature can survive the resize and then vanish in the JPEG compression, which is why this tool reports the contrast it measured before you download.
What about my certificates?
BPSC takes supporting documents as PDF, maximum 100 KB each, which is a tighter ceiling than most commissions. Our compress-to-100kb tool is built for exactly that limit.
Is my signature uploaded to a server?
No. The trim, the legibility measurement and the compression all run in your browser on your own device. Your signature image is never transmitted.
Do I need a webcam to apply to BPSC?
Yes. The advertisement states that the photograph is captured live through a webcam during the application, so a system with a working camera is required. There is no photograph file to prepare in advance.
What should the background be for the BPSC webcam photo?
White or a light colour, with sufficient light. The user manual adds that your face should be straight and in front of the camera with your eyes open, and rules out a cap, power glasses, sunglasses, a mask, a muffler or a helmet. No other person may be in the frame.
Can I upload a photo file to BPSC instead of using the webcam?
No. The photograph step captures a live image. That is why a BPSC photo resizer does not exist here — there is nothing to resize.
What format and size do BPSC certificates need to be?
The advertisement asks for supporting certificates as scanned copies in PDF format, at a maximum of 100 KB each. That is a different limit from the signature and applies per document.
