    The triple signature, in full

UPSC asks for something more specific than most portals, and states plainly that applications with signature files not meeting the specification will be rejected. The full requirement:

Why your file may come out too small. A signature is black strokes on white paper, which is close to the most compressible thing a JPEG will ever encounter. At 350–500 pixels it can easily land under UPSC's 20KB floor, and there is no honest way to inflate it — padding a file to clear a size check leaves you with a low-detail image that a verifier still has to read. If this tool reports your scan is too small, rescan at a higher DPI, keep it in greyscale or colour rather than pure black and white, and leave some white margin around the signatures.

    Scanning tips

    1. Use a scanner or a document-scanning app rather than a plain camera photo, so the page is flat and evenly lit.
    2. Scan at 200–300 DPI in greyscale. Pure black-and-white mode strips detail and produces a file too small to pass.
    3. Keep the page straight. A rotated or skewed scan is a stated rejection reason.
    4. Crop to the block of three signatures, leaving a little white margin, then bring it here.

Puducherry, and the other services filled through this exam

If you are looking for a “Puducherry Public Service Commission”, there is not one. The Union Territory of Puducherry has no Public Service Commission of its own. Its civil service — PONDICS, the Pondicherry Civil Service — is a Group B service recruited through the UPSC Civil Services Examination.

That means the specification on this page is the one you need. There is no separate Puducherry form, no separate portal, and no separate photo rule. You apply through UPSC like everyone else, and the services you are eligible for are determined by your rank and your preferences.

The same is true of the other Union Territory services filled through this examination. If you have been sent looking for a territory-specific commission and could not find one, this is why.

    Frequently asked questions

How many signatures does UPSC need?

Three. Sign your own signature three times vertically, one below the other, on plain white paper using black ink, with adequate space between each, and scan all three into a single image.

What size should the UPSC signature file be?

JPG between 20KB and 100KB, 350 to 500 pixels, saved with the filename signature. Both size limits apply, so a file under 20KB is rejected too.

My signature file is under 20KB. What do I do?

Black ink on white paper compresses very efficiently, so this is common. Rescan at a higher resolution, keep it in colour or greyscale rather than pure black and white, and do not crop away all the white space.

Can I upload three separate signature files?

No. All three signatures must appear in one image, arranged vertically. The file must contain exactly three signatures.

Can I use a blue pen?

UPSC's instructions specify black ink. Use black.

Can I sign on ruled paper?

No. The instructions require plain white paper with no lines or colours.

Will an upside-down or rotated scan be accepted?

No. The instructions require the image to be properly oriented and not rotated or upside down.
