What RRB actually asks you to upload
This is the part worth reading before anything else. Under CEN 02/2026 there are only two uploads, and a photograph is not one of them.

The photograph is captured live. The CEN says candidates are not required to upload a pre-existing photograph; the application module takes a live photo via webcam or your phone's front camera. It also asks you to wear non-white, preferably dark clothing for contrast, to position the camera at eye level, to look straight ahead with a neutral expression, and to remove any cap, mask or spectacles. You can preview and retake it until you submit. If you have seen an “RRB photo resizer” quoting pixel sizes and KB limits, it is preparing you for an upload this notice does not ask for.

Why this tool outputs 1050 × 600 pixels. The 140 × 60 figure is a minimum, not a fixed size — and that matters, because at 140 × 600 a scanned signature only reaches about 4 KB at maximum quality. The 30 KB floor is unreachable there by a factor of roughly seven. A signature is dark strokes on white paper, which is close to the most compressible thing a JPEG will ever meet. We measured a range of sizes at the 35:20 box proportion: 700 × 400 reaches only 22 KB with a crisp black scan, 875 × 500 just scrapes 30 KB, and 1050 × 600 lands mid-band at 38–39 KB for both hard black and softer greyscale scans. That is the size with headroom on both sides, and it clears the stated minimum comfortably.
Grounds for rejection
The CEN lists these specifically. Any one of them can end your candidature at any stage of the recruitment:
- Signature of a person other than the applicant.
- A non-white background.
- Non-black ink.
- Block or capital letters instead of running handwriting.
- Poor resolution or an unclear image.
- An incomplete or partially visible signature.
- Uploading an image that is not the signature, or a blank image.
- A thumb impression in place of a signature.
Candidates with a benchmark disability that prevents signing are an exception: the CEN allows a scanned fingerprint instead, in the order left thumb, right thumb, any finger of the hands, any finger of the feet.
Your signature must also match the ones captured at the examination, at document verification, at the medical examination and on appointment — so use the signature you normally use.
Scanning tips
- Sign inside a 35 × 20 mm area on plain white paper with a black ink pen, in your normal running hand.
- Scan at 200–300 DPI in greyscale rather than pure black and white. The CEN's 100 DPI is a minimum, and a higher-detail scan makes the 30 KB floor much easier to reach.
- Keep the page straight and evenly lit, with no shadow across the paper.
- Crop to the signature using the tool above, leaving a little white margin, and download.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to upload a photograph for RRB?
No. CEN 02/2026 states plainly that candidates are not required to upload a pre-existing photograph. The application module captures a live photograph through your webcam or your phone's front camera while you fill the form.
What size should the RRB signature be?
JPG or JPEG between 30 KB and 49 KB, scanned at a minimum of 100 DPI, with dimensions of at least 140 by 60 pixels.
Why does this tool output 1050 by 600 pixels?
Because 140 by 60 is a minimum, not a fixed size, and at that size a scanned signature only reaches about 4 KB - nowhere near the 30 KB floor. We measured a range of sizes: 1050 by 600 lands in the middle of the 30 to 49 KB band for both crisp black scans and softer greyscale ones.
Can I sign in capital letters?
No. The CEN requires running handwriting, meaning cursive or joined letters. Block, capital or disjoined letters are listed as an explicit ground for rejection.
Can I use a blue pen?
No. The CEN specifies a black ink pen on white paper, and names non-black ink as a rejection ground.
Can I upload a thumb impression instead?
Only if you are a candidate with a benchmark disability that prevents signing. The CEN allows those candidates to upload a fingerprint image in a stated order of preference. For everyone else, a thumb impression in place of a signature is a rejection ground.
Is my signature uploaded to a server?
No. The crop and compression run inside your browser on your own device. Your signature is never transmitted anywhere.
