    What JEE Main asks you to upload

    Five things, and the bulletin is unusually brief about them — the whole specification is a handful of lines.

    It is a range, not a limit

    The PDF documents must be between 50 KB and 300 KB. Most compression tools treat 300 KB as a ceiling and squeeze as far below it as they can — which can push your file under 50 KB and get it rejected for being too small. This tool aims for the middle of the range and tells you plainly if it cannot get there.

    The bulletin repeats one phrase for every single upload: clearly legible. A file that meets the size requirement but cannot be read still fails, so check the certificate number, dates and seals in the finished file before you upload it.

    JEE Main sets no filename requirement. We searched the entire bulletin — there is no instruction to name your files anything in particular. If you have seen advice to save them as “Photograph” and “Signature” for JEE Main, it is not from this document. Some other examinations do demand exact filenames, which is probably where that advice comes from.
    And it gives no pixel dimensions. Not for the photograph, not for the signature, not for anything. No pixel size, no centimetre size and no DPI appear anywhere in the bulletin — we checked all 190,000 characters of it. Figures like 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm for the photograph or 3.5 cm × 1.5 cm for the signature, which circulate widely, do not come from NTA's own document.

    NTA warns that uploading someone else's photograph, signature or certificate is treated as an Unfair Means practice, and that the facility for correction will not be given — so check everything before you submit.

    Preparing a certificate that is too large

    A colour scan of a Class 10 marks-sheet at 300 DPI is commonly 2–4 MB, so reaching 300 KB means cutting it to under a tenth. That is normal. If the result is hard to read, work in this order:

    1. Convert to grayscale first. A marks-sheet is dark text on pale paper and the colour data is mostly waste. Our grayscale tool removes it before compression, leaving more room for detail.
    2. Then bring it into the range with the tool above.
    3. Read the result. If your name, roll number, the board and the marks are not clear, rescan at 150–200 DPI in grayscale rather than compressing a colour scan harder.

    If a certificate spans several pages, merge them into one PDF first. If a scan came out sideways, rotate it. If you only have a photograph of the certificate, convert it to PDF — the bulletin requires PDF for these.

    Also sitting NEET? The specifications are identical. Both examinations are conducted by NTA and both bulletins give the same figures: photograph 10–200 KB, signature 10–100 KB, certificates 50–300 KB, and no dimensions for anything.     Frequently asked questions

    What size should JEE Main documents be?

    The Class 10 certificate or marks-sheet and the disability/UDID certificate are PDFs between 50 KB and 300 KB. Note this is a range, not a ceiling: a file compressed below 50 KB is rejected just as an oversized one is.

    Does JEE Main require a specific filename?

    No. We searched the whole bulletin: it sets no filename for any upload. If you have seen advice about naming your files 'Photograph' and 'Signature' for JEE Main, that is not from the bulletin.

    What are the pixel dimensions for the JEE Main photo?

    The bulletin gives none. No pixel size, no centimetre size and no DPI appear anywhere in it for the photograph or the signature. Figures like 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm circulating online do not come from this document.

    My certificate is a JPG. Can I use it?

    Not for the Class 10 certificate, which must be a PDF. Convert your image first with our JPG to PDF tool, then bring the PDF here.

    My scan is already under 50 KB. What do I do?

    It is below the minimum, and compression only makes files smaller. Rescan the certificate at a higher resolution, or in colour rather than pure black and white, so there is more detail to work with.

    Are JEE Main and NEET specifications the same?

    Yes. Both are conducted by NTA and both bulletins give the same figures: photograph 10 to 200 KB, signature 10 to 100 KB, and certificates as PDFs between 50 KB and 300 KB.

    Are my certificates uploaded to your server?

    No. Compression runs inside your browser on your own device. Your certificates carry your name and identity details, and none of it is transmitted anywhere.
